FAQs
After the tiles are sealed, they will still slightly change in color as they absorb the environment around them due to the nature of the material. They patina and age beautifully over time, but if you are looking for color consistency for the life of the product, our natural tiles will not be a fit for your project.
kinney blocks tiles are made by hand, one by one, so there will always be variation in product color, thickness and overall dimensions from piece to piece. Slight variation and imperfections are what make this product so unique and timeless.
Our tiles are custom made to order, so the lead time is 8-12 weeks.
It is recommended to calculate coverage with minimal grout lines. Small grout joints are always recommended to allow for movement in the tiles during and post installation. Tiles without grout joints can chip, crack or buckle during or after installation.
We recommend ordered 15% overage per industry standard.
Environment and temperature can change the look of the tiles and result in them having a patina over time. If you prefer the look of the tiles upon delivery we recommend to seal and install them quickly and not put them in long term storage.
Yes, but we do recommend thoroughly sealing the product if it will be used in an outdoor environment that freezes.
kinney block tiles are delivered unsealed. We deliver products unsealed as the type of sealing is often determined by the installation location and type. We recommend tiles be sealed prior to installation to prevent staining due to the natural porous material they are made of.
This is a personal choice depending on usage and the end look you desire. Sealing the tiles prevents staining or color changing to the tiles during installation with exposure to grout and bonding agents. We do recommend that you seal the tiles before installation if you want to prevent any color change or staining during the installation process. Sealing also prevents staining in the long term and water damage. Sealing helps the tile look better longer and prevents dust build up on the porous surface.
